So, this past weekend I had no intention of getting into an extra project around the house. I was planning on relaxing and not doing much of anything. Well, if you know me at all, you know I can’t sit still for more than just a few minutes at a time (Unless it’s any time after 8 p.m., then I just can’t even hold my eyes open). But, around mid-morning Saturday, I decided that I was about to paint a piece of furniture that I’ve had for a while. It’s a desk that’s been in my hallway, but has never really been used for more than anything than storage. It’s a beautiful antique piece of furniture, but it was definitely in need of a fresh update.
Here is a before picture. And y’all, I just didn’t have the heart to ask my sweet baby to move her stuff, so here you go! It really was a beautiful dark wood, but it was just too dark for my liking. And as you can tell, because of the age, the wood was quite scuffed up.
So, my brain got to rolling and I decided to paint it and put it in an empty corner in my dining room. And based on how dark it was, I knew it was probably going to take several layers of paint. I love the Waverly brand of chalk paint from Walmart, so I decided to use that for this project. It works great, has good coverage and it’s a great price! (It can be purchased here)
These projects always take way longer than I anticipate, but the finished product is so worth it! Just look how bright and cheery it is now!
Check out these gorgeous details!! (Although sanding is my least favorite part, it sure does make it look pretty!)
The funnest part definitely has to be styling the piece after it’s finished!! You always need something green and a candle is a MUST! This candle is another one of my favorite scents (Fresh Cut Herbs) from my favorite candle place, Antique Candle Works! My other favorite scent is their “Sweet Lemon” scent Candle! (And it’s actually 10% off for the entire month of May! So head on over to their website and check it out.)
I’ve gone back and forth with having something in this corner because I never really could find the perfect piece! Well now it’s the perfect little work space! It looks so pretty and inviting.
As always, thanks for visiting my blog! It’s an honor to have you stop by! And if you ever have any further questions about any of my projects, just drop a comment below and I will get back with you as soon as I can! Have a BLESSED day!
